The tempo is very inconsistent, and the piece suffers from it.

It is ok, average but I thought there was supposed to be a very high note at the start of the long part of the verse.

Its called flow! If it was all exactly the same pace it would be boring. My piano teacher tells me this every Saturday morning!! Its amazing i think. :D

It definitely does not flow. And are you implying that the piece Beethoven actually composed is boring? If so, then I think you need a new piano teacher. Being able to keep a good, consistent tempo is one of the most important aspects of playing the piano.
Listen, I'm not saying that your bad or anything like that; quite to the contrary. I'm simply saying the piece would sound and flow better if there was a consistent tempo. Try it out. You might find that Beethoven knew what he was doing.

I think your interpretation has a perfectly acceptable degree of rubato for this Romantic piece - appropriate for the period, well played. I don't think A minor is the key to do this justice on the guitar though, the melody is too low mostly. But fine, fine playing and stick to your convictions with that tempo.

Thanks for your encouragement. I find most responses to this piece useful. Ultimately of course I have to play it according to my convictions as you say. Oh, and there's no right or wrong here, just what resonates and what doesn't!

I think you have a delightful rendition of one of the most romatic songs ever composed. Great work. Thank you for sharing,

I must disagree. There is a right and wrong here. The way Beethoven wrote it is right, and any other interpretation is wrong.

And I agree that A minor doesn't do the piece justice. Is there a reason why you opted to not play in C Major?

Classical music rarely follows a "consistent tempo" when performed. The inconsistence you refer to is called dynamics in the musical world.

With all due respect, you are not correct. Depending on the piece, classical music most certainly follows a consistent tempo. Check the sheet music - the piece is meant to be played poco moto, which means bit by bit ie slowly & meditatively. & dynamics has nothing to do with changes in tempo; it has to do with the volume of whatever notes are being played. Like it or not, Eddie's performance alters the text of the piece; it adds many empty bars in addition to changing many of the note values.
